Hi — I’m Kris Birdsong, and Axolotl Wise is mine. I keep axolotls myself, and I built this site because when I was starting out the information online was scattered, contradictory and often flat-out risky. Too many care pages were written to rank in search engines rather than to actually keep an animal healthy, and beginners paid the price for it. My goal here is the opposite: practical, cautious advice that puts the animal first.
Why I care about these animals
Axolotls are genuinely fascinating — permanently aquatic salamanders that keep their larval form for life, regrow lost limbs, and carry a serious conservation story, since they are critically endangered in the wild even while they are common as pets. That mix of charm and fragility is exactly why they deserve careful keeping rather than impulse buying. I write every page on this site to help people decide honestly whether an axolotl is right for them, set up a safe cold-water tank, and avoid the common mistakes that make these animals sick.
How this site is written
The advice here is deliberately conservative: cool, fully cycled water, safe substrate, gentle filtration, species-only housing and regular testing. Where keepers disagree online, I point toward the option that gives the animal more water volume, lower stress and cleaner water. This is educational content from an experienced hobbyist — it is not veterinary advice, and for real health emergencies I always tell people to contact an exotic-animal vet.
What Axolotl Wise is not
I am not a breeder, a shop or a veterinary clinic, and nothing here is for sale. Axolotl Wise exists to educate and to send serious health issues to qualified professionals.
